When you’re not really staff it can either go really good or really bad… This contract overall has been really bad!!!! Can’t wait to leave, So tonight I got to work and I’m not on the assignment! The manager is like you’re pulled to 4 east… My response: No I’m not, floating to any unit other than the Family Birth Center is not in my contract! She then says Im sorry I will call and make some changes. Basically if you don’t speak up they will try you! It’s very important to follow your contract, that’s the whole point of having the contract!
As I continue my nursing journey Im starting to feel like Im approaching a fork in the road. Im a 3.5 years experienced RN with the desired to make graduate school my next step. The problem is I have not made it to the specialty of choice yet so Im having a hard time trying to pick my masters program. I have always wanted to do Labor & Delivery and Public Health nursing. So those two are opposite spectrums of nursing and I have never worked full time in either area. I have touched both areas briefly in my career however. Just confused and venting. lol I know its time for growth in my career, I just need to figure myself out first. Thats why Im traveling until I find myself…
But then there’s the struggle of picking a “settle” location… I love Atlanta and I did enjoy Dallas too… Or I could always settle back in Baltimore….
Not only do I love when my patients are sleep but I also love when my patients refusing everything… Usually, but not tonight! I got a critical patient refusing everything thing under her plan… With her current clinical picture being unstable I’m trying to encourage her to cooperate. Only to find out she’s self-pay! When life’s on the line it’s pretty sad that even then you’re more concerned with the hospital bill coming…Thats where our economy is currently at!! God bless America… Lil things that make you say wow! Social Worker referral in the AM!!
Usually around 4 weeks before my contract ends i start searching for new contracts and brainstorming where to go! 6 more weeks left here. Can you guess where to next? When I started traveling i had a list of 5 places I really wanted to experience as a Travel Nurse.
2. New York
Really can’t wait for this contract to end! I’m charge nurse again… And I hate it… I say that only because I was never properly trained for the position, nor was I told in writing that it was a requirement! So I had a fellow travel nurse tell me to take it as a compliment that they trust me to do it, not to mention the leadership skills will now be on my résumé…
I’m on a women’s health unit… It’s suppose to be strictly OB/GYN business but if you have a vagina you can be on my unit lol…
3 nurses per shift
Paper & computer charting!!! (I hate paper)
About 8 miles from my apartment
The staff is cool too
My favorite part about this job is I only work one weekend a month and NO holidays!!!!
